Sydney/Canberra Part 2

Friday, November 23

This is the last of the photos from Sydney! Looking back at the photos makes me happy. While some of it was planned, some of it was completely unplanned, and just fell into place. I loved that. One of my favourite moments in Sydney was the short walk we took during the earlier hours of the morning, just feeling the city slowly awake around us. When it comes to travelling, I've always felt that it's not the great landmarks that you see, but it's the people around you that it makes all so special. Sydney was no different.

Whether it was witnessing the free spirited tenderness that comes so naturally to children, or the hardworking stuntsman at work on the side of the street, or even just locals cycling along, I loved all of it.

Sydney/Canberra Part 1

Sunday, October 21

There's something about being away from home, even though it's only a matter of a few hundred kilometres. I needed time to myself, time to break for a while and time to just breathe. Sydney & Canberra gave me that. My love for small towns rekindled on our way to Canberra, and I've got to say, Canberra surprised me. We arrived just in time for the Floriade, apparently our biggest flower festival and a beautiful celebration of springtime. Next up, Sydney!

Oh sydney

Thursday, October 4

Despite living right next door, it was actually my first time there in Sydney and Canberra. My three days there were certainly not long enough for me to really get to know the city, but it was definitely a great "introductory" few days. Many times a day I would find myself saying, "this is like the (insert melburninan place) of sydney", but there are times where I look around and it just feels completely unfamiliar.

I loved that about Sydney, experiencing both the familiar and unfamiliar. I'm hoping to share more photos from my trip soon. Until then, some of my favourite moments there:
▲ Sitting on the curb of the darling harbour in the evening, enjoying the breathtaking view of the city.
▲ At the Sydney Aquarium, and seeing little kids in complete awe of the penguins: "oh my gosh mum, it's happy feet!" or yelling "dad dad dad! I just saw a real shark!" So precious.
▲ Spring in Sydney is like summer in Melbourne on a good day. So darn comfortable.
▲ Dinner at Mamak, which ensued the thirty minute wait for a table in a queue thissssssssss long that it is totally worth it. Best malaysian food I've eaten outside of malaysia!
▲ Sounds of the city hustles and bustles that lulled me to sleep at night.
▲ Helping to take photos for tourists, knowing that I'm helping them recall this day when they look back at the photos sometime in the future.

After a trip like that, it's hard to come back and just settle back into the daily way of things again. I'm still in a bit of a relaxed, dreamlike state after this break from home and I'm not so sure I want to lose that yet.
